Problem Statement

Children's indoor playgrounds lack the necessary elements required for collaboration and imaginative exploration. How might we design an interactive playground component that uses color and texture to foster social engagement and sensory-rich play experiences?

Observatory Research: The Strong Museum of Play

- Feature brightly-colored (usually primary) objects
- Re-creating familiar adult settings
- Carefully placed illustrations providing visual cues
- Incorporates safety measures such as soft, carpeted floor and safety nets.

Benchmarking

How can kids create and recreate stories using a set of elements? Conducted a visual research of set and stage designs and noted down their versatility, portability, and functionality.

Orthographic Sketches

Read popular kids' stories like the Aesop's Fables and nursery rhymes which helped identify common story elements (nature, terrain, sky, etc.). Made orthographic sketches to determine each elements' silhouette and scale. Allowed for combining shapes and purposes as required.
