Designed a system of four banners, each signifying an important aspect of my family and heritage, using two colors. The name for the project has been derived from the Bengali word Alpona (during auspicious events people hand-paint motifs on the floor using a paste made of water and rice powder), because the background for each banner has been inspired by the art form.

Banner Purpose
1. Banner 1 (The Cultural Significance of Alphona) tells an important story about a country important to me or my family.  I chose Bangladesh because my family's roots are deeply connected to the region.
2. Banner 2 (Where did he Saris' go?) is related to my family. I chose to illustrate the experience my maternal grandmother faced while travelling to visit her family in Faridpur, Bangladesh.
3. Banner 3 (Undivided & Post-Partition Bengal) is an advertisement for an Exhibition. I decided to design for a photography exhibition featuring pictures of people and their lives pre and post partition. The location for this exhibition was in Kolkata, India. I chose this location because I grew up here and it is my home.
4. Banner 4 (Contemporary Art with Traditional Bengali Roots) is an advertisement for a second exhibition. This time I designed for an arts and craft exhibition featuring contemporary Bengali and Bengali-Indian artists belonging to the US diaspora. The location for this exhibition was in St Louis, Missouri, because it is my birthplace and as my father says, 'his second home'.
